Kelly Jones embarks on a fresh solo endeavour with his latest album, “Inevitable Incredible.” Following the thematic stripped back path of his debut “Only The Names Have Been Changed,” which was captivating and spellbinding first time around. We’re happy to report that Jones has done it again. This time transitioning from guitar to piano-led ballads, the album offers deeply personal and emotive storytelling. It’s to no surprise that Jones’ new solo record presents a deeply introspective and cinematic journey that showcases his raw emotion as both a musician and a storyteller. Jones’ decision to primarily write on the piano adds a new dimension to his song writing, allowing for a more nuanced and emotive expression.

After a few listens to the the album, it’s no surprise to learn that the recording process took place at the remote Ocean Sound studio in Norway, the album exudes a sense of intimacy and introspection, capturing the essence of Jones’s raw emotion and vulnerability. It’s sparse and beautiful, evoking images of the ocean, great landscapes, winter seasons and time passing by in slow motion. In a word, cinematic.

The eponymous title track sets the tone for the album, blending hope and reflection in a piano-led composition that resonates deeply. Throughout the album, Jones’s signature vocals, coupled with haunting melodies and evocative lyrics, it creates a deeply intimate experience. Despite his rock roots, Jones showcases a tender vulnerability on “Inevitable Incredible,” exploring themes of time, love, and introspection with unparalleled honesty. Tracks like “Time’s Running Away” and “Echowrecked” highlight Jones’ depth as a songwriter, inviting listeners to join him on a deeply personal level.

Further more, lyrics such as “The world doesn’t owe ya, rain will come down” evoke apocalyptic imagery, showcasing the cinematic scope of “Inevitable Incredible.” The lyrics are imbued with depth and complexity, inviting listeners to explore multiple layers of meaning and interpretation. The album is short and sweet but boy does it hit hard, for 30 plus minutes you’re transported to some cinematic landscape in black and white, a perfect getaway from your everyday. We’ll be visiting this place time and time again. It highlights Jones‘ ability to push the boundaries of his craft. With this album and his most recent side project (Far From Saints) it is clear that Kelly Jones has hit a real creative spark of late and reaffirms his position as one of the UK’s most prolific and versatile musicians, leaving a lasting impression on listeners with his soulful storytelling.
